Welcome to the SkyGarden! - A perfect add-in to your homeschooling needs. Our Stay & Playfor children 2 to 7 and their caregivers, offers the opportunity for you and your littles to interact with other families. A regular rhythm of circle time, snack, clean-up, art and outdoor free-play takes place once a week.
Our Learn & Play for children 7 to 10, is a drop off program, that encourages independence, as children learn food preparation, socialization and academic knowledge through different thematic units. Both programs meet once a week for 5-week sessions.
The SkyGarden offers weekly gatherings, that allow parents to extend the classroom of their home. It also provides caregivers an opportunity to come together in support of each other; sharing ideas, knowledge of local resources and the activities of their children's education and development. STAY & PLAY: Circle time, Snack, Craft & Free-Play help to develop social skills and confidence. Children (aged 2 to 7), learn songs and hand movement during circle time, strengthening the faculties of speech, memory, expression and motor skills. Oral stories and puppet shows, told during circle time, stimulate imagination. Eating a healthy snack, around a large table with others, encourages decorum, and allows children to become familiar with one another, promoting social connections prior to free-play. Group clean-up teaches responsibility and cooperation. After snack, outdoor crafts, that mirror the season, are available to children who are interested. Optimal time is given to outdoor play, where children are free to choose their activities and play mates. Free-play is always outdoors, but the SkyBarn offers a warm fireplace in winter, and an area to gather and play, when being outside isn’t possible.
LEARN & PLAY: Lunch preparation, Circle Song & Games, Themed Learning & Free Play promote independence and responsibility, while encouraging social skills and confidence. Children (aged 7 to 10), master songs well enough to sing them in rounds. Folklore, myths and fables are shared in order to identify different experiences, encourage empathy and determine morals and lessons. Preparing our own lunches helps the children to better understand not only their own role in a community, but also makes them more mindful of their nutrition and what goes into preparing food. Hands-on experience and activity in themed units makes learning relevant and meaningful. The age difference within the group encourages a unity in the group where the older children mentor the younger. Free-play pulls it all together as children create their own games and activites and forge new friendships.
